CHESTERFIELD — Loretta M. Hittle, 91, of Elwood, died April 26, 2014, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Chesterfield.
She was born in Elwood on Aug. 27, 1922, the daughter of Homer and Edith (Cleveland) Skirvin. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Anderson. She and her first husband served several years as missionaries in Africa and were pastors at several Indiana churches. She later worked eight years as a custodian for Elwood Community Schools.
Loretta was an excellent cook who also enjoyed growing roses, and who loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include daughter, Kay (Larry) Goins of Elwood; a son, Tim Hinds of Connersville; stepson, James Robert Hittle of Elwood; sister, Sharon Smay of Windfall; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, the Rev. Leonard Hinds; second husband, Ora “Gene”Hittle; brother, Gene Skirvin; sister, Martha Chinn, daughter-in-law, Donna Hinds; and great-grandchild, Isabella Goins.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Church of Nazarene, 2324 Jackson St., Anderson. The Revs. Gary Cable and Paul Gilmore will officiate. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Elwood City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Tuesday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home, Elwood; and one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
