ALEXANDRIA — Bessie F. Clark, 93, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014, at the Alexandria Care Center following an extended illness.
She was born on March 13, 1921, in Mount Pisgah, Ky., to Charles and Minnie (Huckeby) Ferrell. Bessie has lived in Alexandria since 2000 and was a former resident of the Middletown and Mechanicsburg area where she and her husband farmed. She had worked at a rubber plant in Anderson making gas masks for servicemen during the war. She also worked for Anderson Chevrolet and retired from Delco-Remy after 10 years of employment. Bessie enjoyed fishing and making floral arrangements. She loved to cook and travel in the United States and Canada.
Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis (Roy) Quinton of Alexandria; son, Dennis Clark of New Castle; grandson, Michael (Donna) Quinton of Pendleton; two great-grandsons, Alden Quinton and Kooper Julius; sister, Mary Emmons of Arizona; several nieces and nephews including, special nieces, Peggymae (Carl) Muterspaugh, Dixie Smith and Cheryl (Bill) Carter; special nephew, Warren Russell Clark.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John A. Clark, in 1991; three brothers and a sister.
Services celebrating Bessie’s life will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria. Pastor Chris Hubler will officiate with grandson Michael Quinton also participating. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. prior to the services on Wednesday.
Graveside services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at South Mound Cemetery in New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Resident’s Activity Fund of the Alexandria Care Center or the Delaware County Little Red Door Cancer program through the funeral home.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff and caregivers at the Alexandria Care Center for the loving and compassionate care they gave to Bessie.
