Carl S. Kovacs

April 5, 1959 - May 15, 2014

ANDERSON — Carl S. Kovacs, 55, Anderson, passed away on May 15, 2014, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was born April 5, 1959, in Anderson, the son of the late John S. and Mildred Kovacs. Carl was a lifelong resident of Anderson and a graduate from Anderson High School, Class of 1977. He had worked for Crestview Center for 20 years prior to working for St. John’s Medical Supply. He was a former member of the band Zeus and also several local bands. Carl had a 25-year relationship with the Friends of Bill W.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Victoria J. (Ballinger) Kovacs, together for 24 years; three children, Brandon (Donatte) Kovacs, Elizabeth Kovacs and Jacob Kovacs, all of Anderson; three grandchildren, Braden Kovacs, Maddy Kovacs and Kaden Kovacs; his siblings, Kathy (Dennis) Berard of Sebring, Fla., Becky Kovacs of Hartford City, John (Monica) Kovacs of Charlotte, N.C., Terry (Tim) McLain of Joshua, Texas, and Bil (Anita) Kovacs of Sebring, Fla.; his in-laws, Joseph and Mary Ballinger; one brother-in-law, Bill Ballinger; nieces, Bleu, Melissa, Kathy, Heather, Joy, Alyssa, Lindsay, Kassie, Nora, Audrey and Charlotte; nephews, Zack, Kyle, Quinton, Taylor, Karson and Corbin; and his loving cat Sushi.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Gretchen Ballinger and Jim Girt.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the St. Vincent Cancer Center, the staff on the chemo floor of the St. Vincent Hospital, as well as the Hospice staff for their care of Carl.

A celebration of life service will be at 6 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2014, at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service and Crematory. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the House of Hope of Madison County.
