ANDERSON — John L. Lasley, 75, passed away May 30, 2014, after fighting a courageous battle with an extended illness.
Born Sept. 27, 1938, in Alabaster, Ala., to Manuel Lasley and Nancy Lee, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid fisherman and robust card player.
John retired from Guide Lamp in which he was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 663.
John moved his family from Florida to Indiana for employment reasons and after his retirement he moved to Alabama. He resided in Alabama until he was brought back to Anderson to be cared for by his loving daughter.
John leaves to cherish his memory, children, Shirley Blakely, Johnny Lasley, Andrew Lasley, Otis Lasley and ByVonda Lasley; his wife of 23 years, Eva Lasley; brothers, Charles (Cheryl) Lasley, Billy Ray (Lubonia) Lasley, Elbert (Debbie) Lasley and Ralph Rogers; sisters, Sarah Cooke, Rosa Ann Clark, Evelyn Lasley Dorsett, Kathy Thrift and Antoinette Rogers Bryan; 11 stepchildren; 17 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; special friend, Cynthia Embry; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Big momma Evergreen Leaf; sisters, Annie Lasley, Marvin Lasley, Thelma Lasley, Patricia Lasley and Aunt Vera Cooke.
Services will be Friday at noon at New Purpose Ministries, 2404 Dewey St., with Pastor Darnell A. Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the church.
Arrangements are entrusted to Glazebrooks Funeral Services.
