Lyle E. Summers

Oct. 25, 1922 - July 10, 2013

ALEXANDRIA — Lyle E. Summers, 90, Alexandria, died July 10, 2013, at the Heart Center of Indiana, Indianapolis, after a brief illness.

He was born Oct. 25, 1922, in Alexandria, the son of Roscoe Summers and Verlie (Rogers) Summers, and lived in the Alexandria area all of his lifetime.

Lyle was a graduate of Alexandria High School-Class of 1940. Following high school, he worked at Nicholson File, formerly of Anderson. He served with the United States Navy during World War II. He also worked at the former Anderson Electronics. Lyle co-owned Summers TV Sales and Service with his brother Jack in Alexandria for 13 years.

In 1967, he joined the maintenance department of Ball State University in Muncie as an electronics technician and retired from there in 1984. He was a life member of the Knights of Pythias and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in North Fort Myers, Fla. Lyle was a member of the Vermillion Christian Church in rural Alexandria.

He enjoyed boating at their summer lake cottage and also on the Ohio River. Lyle was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan.

Survivors include his wife, Mary (Allen) Summers, whom he married July 24, 1941; two sons, Ronald (Denise) Summers of Indianapolis, and Jeff (Vicky) Summers of Alexandria; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Phyllis Alford Burris of Alexandria; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Scott Summers in 2001; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with Pastor Paul Werling of Vermillion Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery, Alexandria, with military honors provided by the United States Navy and the Elwood VFW-American Legion Honors Team.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Vermillion Christian Church through the funeral home.
