Augustine Seulean

Aug. 16, 1917 - March 4, 2013

MEDFORD, Ore. — Augustine Seulean (95) was born in Anderson, Ind., on Aug. 16, 1917, and died in Medford, Ore., March 4, 2013.

He was the son of Andrew and Catalina (Oltean) Seulean who came from Romania to the United States in 1912. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, George and Valere, and little sister, Anna Seulean.

“Augie” graduated from Anderson High School in 1936 and from Butler University in Indianapolis in 1941. During World War II, he spent more than four years in the U.S. Army. After the war he returned to Anderson and his former employment with Delco Remy Division of GMC as an internal auditor.

In 1946 he married Anita (Roseberry) Seulean and she and their two sons, David (Nancy) Seulean of Ashland, Ore., and Andrew Seulean of Anderson survive him. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Wendy (Wade) Jagger of Syracuse, Ind., Whitney (Trent) Finley and Wesley (Chad Leslie) Seulean of Anderson, and Sam of Astoria, Ore., Kit Seulean and Louie Elizabeth Seulean of Portland, Ore. The great-grandchildren are Alyssa Finley and Landon and Claire Jagger. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Fern Seulean; brother-in-law, Phil Roseberry; and several nieces and nephews.

Augie attended the Romanian Orthodox church in Indianapolis and the First United Methodist Church in Anderson. He worked as an auditor for Delco Remy Division of GMC for 44 years and was a member of the Society of Certified Internal Auditors. He was a charter member of the Anderson Exchange Club, a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Madison County (Ind.) Historical Society, and the Indiana Historical Society.

Augie was devoted to his family. When his mother had been in the United States for 54 years he took her to her homeland in 1966 to see her sisters and brothers. Loving to travel, Augie and Anita made numerous trips to Europe and he had been in all 50 of the United States. He was an avid reader and a “Mr-Fix-It.” He enjoyed the friendship of many and his outgoing personality and friendly smile are greatly missed. A Celebration of his life will be at a future time.

Special thanks to (Florica) Janet Anderson and Oregon family friends Robert, Tonia, Gary, Margaret, Cathy, Tom and Kelli and Nancy Joslin of Lapel, Ind. The service and care of hospice is appreciated by the family.

Arrangements by Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland, Ore.
