ALEXANDRIA — Marvin G. Davis, 81, Alexandria, died Sept. 9, 2013, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 17, 1932, in Alexandria, the son of Elijah Davis and Mary (King) Davis, and lived in Alexandria most of his lifetime.
Marvin graduated from Alexandria High School. He served with the United States Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Continental Can, formerly of Elwood after 40 years. He was a former member and past president of the Alexandria Kiwanis Club. He was also a former member of the Alexandria Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star and the Alexandria Elks. He enjoyed fishing, reading and time spent in Florida. Marvin attended the Christian Congregation Church of Alexandria.
Survivors include his wife, Sue (Kerr) Davis, whom he married Aug. 10, 1962; son, James P. (Anita) Davis of West Chester, Ohio; grandson, James P. Davis Jr.; sister-in-law, Debbie (Bob) Downey of Alexandria; several nieces and nephews including special nephews, Joe Miller and Jonathan Downey; special niece, Kayla Downey; and special four-legged friends, Libby and Izzy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and seven brothers and sisters.
Services will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with Pastor Jerry Young officiating. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery with military honors by the United States Navy and the Elwood Veterans of Foreign Wars-American Legion Honors Team.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
