Bill Stansberry

Dec. 19, 1954 - Jan. 12, 2011

ALEXANDRIA, Ind. — Bill Stansberry, 56, Alexandria, died surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Community Hospital after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 19, 1954, in Elwood, the son of Jack Stansberry and Peggy (LaShure) Stansberry, and resided in the Dundee-Alexandria area all of his lifetime.

Bill operated heavy equipment for the Madison County Landfill, Dave’s Excavating (Marion), and Harvey Construction (Noblesville).  He was a loving and devoted husband, son, and father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Bill enjoyed football, Indiana University basketball, his grandchildren’s ball games, NASCAR and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife, Jill (Harmon) Stansberry, whom he married May 14, 1988; children, Michelle Small (companion, Todd Wehsollek) and Jason (Elida) Stillwell, all of Alexandria. and Regina (Rodney) Terry of Summitville; mother, Peggy Stansberry of Frankton; brothers, Steve Stansberry of Anderson,  Ron (Kristy) Stansberry, Jeff (Chris) Stansberry and Rick (Debbie) Stansberry, all of Frankton; sisters, Cindy Stewart (companion, John Rossiter) of Anderson, and Vickie (Steve) Irick of Edinburgh; father-in-law, Glenn Harmon of Anderson; brothers-in-law, Bill (Nancy) Harmon of Daleville, and Glenn (April) Harmon of Englewood, Fla.; grandchildren, Jordan Small of California,  Jarrett Small, Victoria, Abigail, Katerina and Jason Stillwell, all of Alexandria, and Nathan, Bryce and Caleb Wilson and Dylan White, all of Summitville; and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Stansberry; grandparents, Ruth and Paul Stansberry; cousin, Melissa Stansberry; aunt, Peggy Stansberry;  mother-in-law, Betty Harmon; and brother-in-law, Ron Harmon.

Services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with Pastor Brad Storm, Redeemer Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.

Friends may call from noon until the hour of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home.

Bill wanted to say a special thank you to his buddies, Todd Fuller and Todd Wehsollek; and cousin, Danny Stansberry.
