Betty F. Record

ALEXANDRIA, Ind. — Betty F. (Cleaver) Record, 85, died May 3, 2013, at her residence, following an extended illness.

She was born May 12, 1927, in Alexandria, the daughter of William J. and Bertha (Eggleson) Cleaver, and resided in Alexandria and Marion most of her life.

Betty was a graduate of Alexandria High School, Class of 1945.

She, and her late husband, John Record, owned and operated Record’s Rexall Drugs in Alexandria for 25 years. She had also worked as a hostess and funeral assistant at Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home in Marion for 30 years. She retired and returned to Alexandria in 2007.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, both in Marion and Alexandria. She taught Sunday school and served on the Deaconess Board. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and Marion Toastmasters. Betty had been active in community and civic activities, including the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce. She was an avid writer, having written plays, Sunday School literature and poetry. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling and antiquing.

Survivors are her daughter, Mary (Tom) Skroch of Anderson; son, David (Arzella) Huffman of Marion; daughter-in-law, Sue Huffman of Alexandria; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; seven

great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Janet (Jim) Garner and Mary (Sherm) Hurst, all of Alexandria; special friend, Janet Pruden of Alexandria; and several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, David Huffman; second husband, John Record, who died in 2004; son, William Huffman; and brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Gloria Cleaver.

Services honoring Betty’s life will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Baptist Church, 2107 S. Park Ave. (Ind. 9 North) in Alexandria, officiated by Pastor Michael Deutsch. Interment will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Alexandria.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church, and may be given through the funeral home.

Family care and service arrangements have been entrusted to Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria.
