FAIRMOUNT — Elsie R. Elder, 85, former Middletown resident, passed away at Community Hospital in Anderson on Sept. 2, 2013, after a brief illness.
She was born in McDougal, Ark., on Oct. 17, 1927, the daughter of Thomas and Lillie Hazelwood Russell.
She was a 1945 graduate of Neelyville, Mo., High School. She lived in Middletown for 53 years before moving to Fairmount.
She worked as a child care provider for many years in Middletown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin in 2001; two brothers, Elmer “Bud” Russell and Tommy Russell; and one sister, Ellen Koons.
Survivors include her children, Sherrie Wall (Michael) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Gail Elder of Sharpsville, Dale Elder (Denise) of Columbus, Sandi Perkins (Bob) of Middletown, and Peggy True (Mike) of Fairmount; two sisters, Wilma Riley of Middletown and Mildred Cannell of Atlanta, Ind.; one brother, Inos Russell of Anderson; brother-in-law, Frankie Koons of Middletown; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 118 S. Fifth St., Middletown, with the Rev. Robert Starr officiating. Burial will follow in Miller Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before the services on Thursday.
