ANDERSON, Ind. —
Deacon Robert L. “Deacon Bob” Bradley, 62, Anderson, passed away April 23, 2013, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital, with his mother and brother at his side.
Deacon Bob was a faithful member, usher and deacon at United In Christ Church, Anderson, and was also a member of the Avondale Sympathy Club.
Deacon Bob was born Jan. 22, 1951, in Muncie, the son of the Rev. J.D. and Jeanette Roberson. He graduated from Muncie Community Schools and was a longtime resident of Muncie. He went on to become the first Afro-American chef at the Roberts Hotel, Muncie. Deacon Bob also served in the U.S. Air Force where he received an honorable discharge.
Deacon Bob was self-employed and worked in carpentry. He also was a licensed heavy equipment operator. His hobbies included fishing, carpentry, and being a supervisor criticizer along with hanging out with his brother David Paul. He also attended singing performances of his niece Denise Bradley, whom he loved to hear sing.
Deacon Bradley is survived by his mother, Jeanette Roberson of Anderson; daughter, Aisha Bradley (Regina ) Harris of Indianapolis; sister, Linda (Henry) Eckford of Muncie; brothers, David Paul (Kathy) Bradley of Anderson, J.D. (Jennifer) Roberson of Muncie, Michael (Annie) Bradley of Temecula, Calif., and Jerome (Ladel) Roberson of San Antonio, Texas; stepsister, Clarissa Coastie of Muncie; stepbrother, Byron Bradley of Muncie; two granddaughters, Zia Leondra Bradley and Janilah Harris; special uncle, Vance Steward; special cousin, Georgie Mae Wheatley; former wife, Judy Powell Bradley of Indianapolis; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; other relatives and special friends, Richard Johnson Jr., Jonathan Jackson, Wayne Harris, Mattie Peal Williams and Stephen and Pat Fenner.
The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Sharief and staff, 6th Floor St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital and Meadowbrook Rehabilitation staff.
Deacon Bob was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. J.D. Roberson.
A memorial service to celebrate Deacon Bob’s Home Going will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at United in Christ Church, 538 E. 31st St., Anderson.
The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 a.m.
