Gene E. Hollen

Sept. 9, 1932 - April 29, 2013

ANDERSON, Ind. — Gene E. Hollen, 80, of Anderson, passed away April 29, 2013, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born Sept. 9, 1932, in Taswell, Ind., the son of Floyd and Ida (Gilliatt) Hollen. He lived most of his life in Anderson and attended New Beginnings Church. He retired from Delco Remy and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Gene was a hard working, self-made man who was an excellent provider for his family. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed country music, playing bingo, pitching horseshoes, bowling, playing pool, turkey shooting contests, camping and sitting around a campfire.

He is survived by nine children, Janice (James) Smith, Jeffrey (Lisa) Hollen, Jerry (Carol) Hollen, Julie Moore, James (Theresa) Hollen, Jill (Spike) Hollen, Joey (Kathy) Hollen, Jennifer (Dennis) Smiley, and John (Joyce) Hollen, all of Anderson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ceresa, Joey, Kelsey, Katie and Kayden Key, Amanda, Jimmy, Kiliegh, Kyler, and Kynzee Lynn, Brandy, Zach, Chesney, and Channing Kerr, Jeffrey, Drew, Stacy, Alexis, Amari, Aaron, Brittany, Aloma, Jessi, Joe and Jayden Hollen, Shawn, Tia, Hailee, Jasmine and Amber Hollen, Jalen Stellwag,  Jamen Mahaney and Javen Hollen, Chelbie Hollen, Pasha (Jody) Moore and Etta (Brandon) Moore, Jamie Hollen, Tiyon Chatman, Akardia King, Kaylee, Leiam, and Michael Shields, Rhianna Davis, Selena Rouse, Glen and Peyton Mullins, Michelle Smith, Benjamin (Ashley) Smiley and Sarah (Kyle) Smiley, Joell Hollen and Kyrell Jones, Kylena Jones; brother, Farrell Hollen; sister, Norma Brown; and special friends, Robert McCullum and Jarrett Cornwell; and his K9 companion, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lena Hollen; sister, Leota Condra; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ben and Ora Bowling.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, 515 E. 53rd St., with Pastor Gary Marcum officiating. Burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery with military honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Beginnings Church youth group.
