Esther Johnson

April 1, 1928 - March 15, 2013

ANDERSON, Ind. — We the children of Esther Johnson, 84, lost the Love of our lives, to our beloved God on March 15, 2013, at Community Hospital of Anderson, Indiana.

She was born on April 1, 1928, in Richmond. She was the youngest girl born to the Rev. Harvey Locket Kirtz and Sister Rosella Wilson-Kirtz. She accepted Christ at an early age. She relocated to Muncie and united with the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. In 1952 she became a supervisor for Midwest Towel of Muncie, employed at Roache’s Café. In 1987 she relocated to Anderson, then united with Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Thomas Robinson. She also served as an usher and on the Kitchen Committee until she became ill on March 17, 1999.

She leaves to cherish her memory children, John Thomas Streaty and Bertha Streaty, both of Anderson, Dorothy Streaty, Muncie and Chonda Connell, Indianapolis; three stepchildren, Lela Johnson, Muncie, and Ricky Streaty and Mingo Streaty, Anderson; grandchildren, Marvin Streaty, DeWayne Streaty, Jackie Kay Chavis, Twanette Davis, Lamont Streaty, Tyron Streaty, Tamika Streaty, Antonio Streaty, Bryan Streaty, Tamaris Streaty, Yvonne Streaty, Tia Streaty, Mia Connell and Carlos Connell, Paris Streaty, Reese Streaty and Lucky Streaty; four stepgrandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two special great-great-grandchildren, Da’Manie and Paul Jr.; a sister, Lucille Kirtz-Stuart (Bud), Harrisburg, Pa.; a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; and in-laws, the Rev. Otis and Nellie Miller, Gertrude Spence, Kenneth and Barbara Walker and Donald and Sophie Streaty.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Johnson; parents, the Rev. Harvey Locket Kirtz and Sister Rosella Wilson-Kirtz; brothers, Edward Kirtz, the Rev. Emmitt Kirtz, Paul Kirtz, Robert Kirtz, Marcus Kirtz, Ezra Kirtz and Lo Kirtz; sisters, Sadie Kirtz and Maggie Kirtz-Moore; and special sisters, Dasie Allen, Gladys Brown and Bertha Streaty.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gholar & Gholar Funeral Services, 2223 Nichol Ave., Anderson.

Services will be held at noon Friday at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, 615 Henry St., Anderson. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Muncie.
