Josephine Johnson

March 26, 1942 - Sept. 21, 2012

ALEXANDRIA, Ind. —  Josephine “Josie” Johnson, 70, passed away Sept. 21, 2012, at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after an extended illness.

She was born March 26, 1942, in Wilder, Tenn., the daughter of Burton and Viola (Phillips) Howard, and resided in the Alexandria area most of her lifetime.

Josie retired from General Tire in Marion, in 1979, after 13 years of employment.

She attended Florida Station Church of God.

She was very devoted to her family, and their care and nurture, and she was especially fond of going out to eat with family and friends.

Survivors include her longtime companion, Ron Carr of Marion; daughter, Anita (David) Deckard of Elwood; sons, Rob (Kathy) Wallace of Gaston and Jerry Johnson of Alexandria; former husband, Bill Wallace of Alexandria; nine grandchildren, Justin Wallace, Nikki (Jared) Payne, Robby Wallace, Ashley Wallace, Odie Wallace, Brooke Johnson, Jessica Kidwell, David Decker and Cory Deckard; eight great-grandchildren, Loreli Payne, JJ Payne, Zavier Wallace, Junior Johnson, Elijah Johnson, Haven Kidwell, Landon Kidwell and Jace Deckard; her brother, Joel (Alice) Harville of Alexandria; her sister, Naomi Brown-Monterey of Tennessee; stepsons, Lawrence Johnson and Jay Johnson, both of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.

Josie was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Adam Zdzieblowski; and great-grandson, Brighton Wallace

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, officiated by the Revs. Jerry Hilligoss and Bill Hilligoss. Interment will follow at Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions, which can be made through the funeral home, are suggested to the American Kidney Foundation.
