Michael Leon Shoemaker

July 9, 1961 - June 4, 2013

MUNCIE — Michael Leon Shoemaker, 51, Muncie, departed this life on June 4, 2013, at his home with family at his side.

He was born July 9, 1961, in Anderson, to Chester and Elaine (Eldridge) Shoemaker. After high school Michael enlisted in the U. S. Navy where he served five years and was honorably discharged.

During his career Michael was employed at the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department, Pendleton Corrections Facility, New Venture Gear and the General Motors, Fort Wayne Truck Plant.

Michael loved his family. He was affectionately known as “Uncle Mike." Michael loved life and displayed a great passion for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and also loved to travel, play cards and spending quality time with family and friends.

Michael leaves many fond memories that will be cherished by his parents, Chester and Elaine Shoemaker; his sister, Michelle Shoemaker; two nieces, Aunyea Edwards and Brittany Swain; two stepdaughters, Danielle Lsom and Andrea Lampkins; and his great-nieces and nephews.

Additional family includes uncles, Darnell (Karen) Eldridge, Ezell Jr. (Audry) Eldridge and Myron Eldridge; aunts, Rosemary Remson, Bonnie Morgan, Sandra Kay (companion, Stanley), Pat Shoemaker, Kay Lewis and June Lewis; and a host of cousins and special friends.

A memorial service celebrating Michael’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel AME Church, 1020 E. Jackson St., Muncie, with the Rev. Dr. Marie Williams Hawkins officiating.

Arrangements were entrusted to L.C. May Funeral Services, Anderson.
