Donald Wood

May 11. 1933 — Sept. 4, 2011

ELWOOD, Ind. — Donald Wood, 78, of Elwood, died Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at Bethany Pointe Health Campus in Anderson.  

He was born May 11, 1933, in Decatur County, the son of Webster and Dorothy (Dewitt) Wood.  

Don was an electrician, employed by Ex-Cello Corporation for 24 years, retiring in 1998.   

He was a 1951 graduate of Mays High School.

Don served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Division during the Korean War.

On Dec. 11, 1955, he married Betty D. Hoppel.

Don was a lifetime member of the American Legion and several submarine clubs.  

He was a former Babe Ruth Baseball coach in Elwood and an avid sports fan.   

Survivors include his wife, Betty D. (Hoppel) Wood of Elwood; daughter, Lori (Mark) Reynolds of Elwood; sons, Donald “Keith” (Debbie) Wood and Matt (Pam) Wood, all of Tipton; sister, Joyce Springman of Greensburg; seven grandchildren, Kylie (Darren) Dyer, Kara Barton, Joel (Stephanie) Wood, Jill Wood, Amy Wood, Kevin Horseman and Brandon Wood; and four great-grandchildren, Keagan Longnecker, Claire Barton, Evan Barton and Tenley Dyer.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert Wood.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home, 415 S. Anderson St.,  Elwood with the Rev. Matt Miller officiating. Burial, with military honors, will take place at Marion National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  

Memorial contributions may be made to the Elwood Concerts in the Park Committee.
