Margaret Ann Evers

ANDERSON — Margaret Ann Evers, 84, of Anderson, passed away Sept, 6, 2013, at Community Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born Aug. 18, 1929, the daughter of Charles and Gesina (Coby) McDonald in Cincinnati, Ohio, and has lived in Anderson since 1979. She had been married to Ed “Eddie” Evers for 63 years preceding his death in January 2012.

Marge was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served on the Funeral Dinner Committee for 11 years. She is famous for her deviled eggs, and claimed to have made more than 10,000 of them during her tenure. She was involved in many volunteerism efforts, and was a proud member of the Crashaw Literary Society, and worked at JC Penney’s for 14 years.

Maggie rode on the back of Eddie’s Gold Wing motorcycle “to prove her love” for him; she was known for wearing curlers under her helmet. She was an avid reader, loved her crossword puzzles, and enjoyed her creative writing classes at Ball State University. She felt honored to be the “adopted grandmother” of the neighborhood children. Every stranger quickly became a friend, and friends became family. But above all, she loved her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren, Valerie Evers Bernacki (husband, Frank; children, Brendan (wife, Shelley), Stephen, Annie); Victoria Sajdak (husband, Patrick; children, Leland, Nathan, Veronica (son, Jude); Paul (wife, Debbie; daughters, Meghan, Carly, Jessie); Laura Soverns (husband, Tony; sons, Andrew (wife, Joanie), Peter, Christopher, Matthew); Pamela Parry (fiancé, Doug Deering; children, Sydney, Griffin, Audrey); Jody Shell (husband, Erick; daughter, Sophia).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Evers Jr.; and son, Edward F. Evers III.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Anderson. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or St. Mary’s Catholic School Scholarship Fund.
