Letter: Workers pay for flawed trade policies

President Bill Clinton promoted and passed NAFTA, with former Vice President Al Gore’s help. Also — wake up, America! The Japanese control 96 percent and Korea controls 95 percent, respectively, of their countries’ auto markets. America controls 45 percent of the U.S. auto market. Why?....more>>

  • Viewpoint: Pence should lead his party in support of constituents' health care
Our elected representative, Congressman Mike Pence of Indiana’s 6th District, had an opportunity to assure the liberty of thousands of his constituents. Rather than championing liberty, Pence decided instead to support his political party by casting a NO vote on HBR 3200 (health care).

  • Editorial: Edwards has been exemplary president
James Edwards has been president of Anderson University since 1990. During his time, AU, as it’s affectionately known, has made great strides in becoming a truly international university.

  • Letter: Accident shows need for commerce connector
The Oct. 22 tragic propane truck accident, which bottled up traffic on both Interstate 465 and Interstate 69 for hours, makes a strong case for renewing consideration of a commerce connector that would route truck traffic around cities.

  • Letter: Quit listening to the naysayers
How many times have we heard it said, when referring to plant closings in particular, “these jobs are never coming back?” Since the 1970s, corporate America has been sending our jobs abroad in search of cheaper labor.

  • Letter: Utility bills’ event flier questioned
I recently received my bill from Anderson City Utilities and was shocked to find an advertisement for a church function in the envelope. I was appalled.

  • Editorial: County’s unpaid furlough days painful but needed
None of this is any fun. When the economy is bad and public money dries up, government has to figure out a way to conform to a shrinking budget.

  • Primus Mootry: coping with loss a part of life and learning
Over the course of our lives, we routinely suffer a variety of losses. Most are small, like a young child’s tooth. Others are more significant but, in the grand scheme of things, really no big deal. Then, of course, there are the losses that loom large, such as the loss of a loved one. All loss is an inescapable part of life.

  • Editorial: Homeless event raises awareness
‘Homelessness has no face.” Jimmie Schuster, 33, uttered the phrase last weekend during a unique night where Anderson residents got a close-up view of the plight of the homeless. About 150 people paid $25 to sleep in a tent or $10 to stay in a cardboard box in a vacant eastside lot.

  • Letter: Thanks for tribute to Madison Heights
Thanks to Anderson Community Schools board of directors, a request for a monument in honor of Madison Heights High School will finally be placed on the current location of Anderson High School. As a past student of Madison Heights, I remember the pride that we students felt for our lovely new surroundings when our school doors opened in September of 1956.
