Letter: Solutions offered to make up class time

A recent article sounds like there are concerns about getting time for the students in class. Have you ever thought about putting the school system on winter hours? If you would delay the start of school the two hours and make it end two hours longer, I can't see any harm in that.

The students would get the same amount of time in class and the teachers would get to spend the same amount of time with their students. If the teachers only spend maybe 30 minutes with the class, do they get to spend quality time with their students? Some students need more class time and more time with the teacher than 30 minutes. If there is an issue with the teachers about when the school starts, this should be simple to resolve.

Now let's address missing a full day of school. When a full day of school is missed is missed because of the weather, then let the students make it up on Saturday, and if two days are missed that week then make them up the next two Saturdays.

Our students need all of the education that we can make available to them. It is up to the teachers and the school administrators to make sure they don't shortchange the students who want to get the most out of our educational system. We need to remember that an education is the best thing that you can give these students. Don't take that away from them because of a little bad weather.
