I tried to find the profit/earnings for Anderson Municipal Light & Power but was unable to. I'm sure such will reveal they are highly capable of paying for whatever they want to increase our payments for. The following words are on their site:
"As a community owned and locally controlled public power utility, Anderson Municipal Light and Power provides low-cost and reliable electric service. We are constantly looking for ways to better our service to our customers and community."
The below, from http://online.barrons.com/article/PR-CO-20130418-909605.html
Press release, Thursday, April 18, 2013: Anderson Municipal Light and Power commits to Aclara TWACS Technology Advanced Metering Infrastructure for reading electric meters.
"Data provided by the TWACS AMI solution will allow Anderson Municipal Light and Power to better understand patterns of usage and identify programs that can reduce system peaks and keep costs low. Meters on the TWACS system can also be connected automatically, allowing the utility to eliminate costs related to rolling trucks."
Raising our electric bills by 4 percent is more than outrageous. My light bill is already approximately $200 each month when I conserve. Far too many bring in $2,000 and less monthly. So how do you think residents have extra money especially with wages cut, no jobs, low paying jobs, retirees and many on public assistance? For many, groceries run approximately $400 per month, winter heat almost $300, housing even more. Everyday Americans are tired of being "whipping boys" for the wealthy. Let them choose another avenue to increase their profits. It is not our fault for greed you maintain antiquated systems by resolving to kill the prospects of solar energy 40 years ago as you successfully avoid it now.
The city should not have committed if they don't have funds. No, to any increase; residents don't have the funds either and we would like that solar energy. Employ brain power and find a way to make it cheaper.
