Letter: Letter carriers collected 49,785 pounds of food

On behalf of the NALC Branch 489 (Anderson Post Office), I would like to thank everyone who donated food or made a monetary donation to our May 11 food drive. We are happy to report that we, along with Alexandria, Pendleton and Lapel post offices, collected 49,785 pounds of food for Madison County. We are proud to help those in our community who are in need.

We would like to give a huge thanks to Second Harvest Food Bank that donated time, trucks and gasoline to transport this food to our Madison County pantries.

I would like to recognize the many volunteers who helped collect the food and unload and reload it for transportation, including First Friends Church, Operation Love, United Way, Second Harvest Food Bank, Celebrate Church and family members of letter carriers and retired letter carriers. We could not have done this without you.

Of course, none of this is possible without the hard work of our city and rural carriers who do double duty on this day each year. Thank you for 21 years of successful food drives!

A huge thanks also to Nichol Avenue Pizza Hut, Rickers and AFL-CIO who donated items or made monetary donations to help feed our volunteers. Thank you!
