Phase II is slated for completion in the summer of 2014. If the studies in this phase are thorough, it will arm local officials and residents with the information needed to decide whether to push ahead with the project, which could cost about $450 million in a mix of government money and private investments if brought to completion.
Some local folks have already rushed to judgment, pro or con, on the Mounds Lake Reservoir project. But all should remain open-minded until Phase II is completed. Then a rational, well-informed decision can be made about a project that would radically alter the community.
