My plan to save the Wigwam. The first thing you need to do is to replace the Indian head mosaic with a sign that says Home of the Original NBA Anderson Packers. If you guys get an NBA B League team, you can promote that you guys are The Real Deal. You know. Almost as original as The Harlem Globetrotters.
Anderson could probably support three games a year. If you are lucky. So most of your games should be scheduled for the road. Maybe you can schedule exhibition games on holidays with high school and college faculty. You know, exhibition games where some of the money goes to charity, and some of the money goes to save the Wigwam.
I think the reason why I got an A in hospitality marketing, when I was in college, was because I did my homework. One of the suggestions that my homework assignments gave as a source for selling hotel conference facilities was to send advertising to associations. I went to the library at Columbus State, and used old-fashioned search methods to find out different associations in Columbus, Ohio. I mean it there are some really weird associations in this country. The only association I can recall from my research at Columbus State was: The Association For Association Executives.
I tend to think The Association For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals is about normal for the kinds of titles for associations you might discover if you research the matter. Maybe you guys could find an association that would want to invest in saving the Wigwam by scheduling an annual association convention at The New Packard Convention Hall. I would check to see if there is an Antique Packard Owner’s Association that would like to have a convention at the Wigwam. There is ample parking. If you let them change the name to Packard Hall Home of the Anderson Packers, maybe they would be interested. I know. It is a weird suggestion. I mean it. There are a lot of strange associations out there.
One more suggestion. If Greg Oden’s career does not go to the NBA Finals in Cleveland, maybe he could win a championship in the NBA B League. Having somebody like Greg play on the Anderson Packers would draw enough of an audience to be able to schedule more than three homes games a year.
