Letter: Good neighbors are a blessing

Wow! What neighbors! I cannot adequately tell how good my neighbors have been to Barb and me. For years, Bill Young has used his truck that has a blade to remove snow from our driveway and those of neighbors. The noise outside our front door one snowy morning was Al Renschler scooping us a path and bringing us the newspaper. He and his wife, Mary, brought us our mail and paper for several days.

Al purchased a snow blower, cleaned our driveways, walkway, and the neighbors also. How nice it was to have the snow removed and the paper and mail brought to our door. A few years ago, I needed to fix our fence in the backyard so the poodles could now crawl under it. Don Swaboda, another neighbor, helped me. He did the hardest part of the work.

Several years ago, I was working gathering leaves and here came John and Carol Starke and with their help the job was soon done. I should say by that time I have reached an advanced middle age. When an ice storm hit several years ago, we lost our electricity. John and Carol bought a generator, and with John's ingenuity and help from another neighbor, Jim Shepherd, a retired GM electrician, he kept our frozen food safe and gave some light in our house. Al supplied us with wood for our fireplace that warmed our bodies as well as our hearts.

We have been and are blessed with fine neighbors.
