Viewpoint: Golf event boosts Man4Man Ministries

Man4man Ministries would like to thank all of the participants, sponsors, volunteers and Killbuck Golf Club personnel for the incredible day enjoyed by all at the 2013 Man4Man Ministries Golf Outreach. With over $5,000 in raffle items and nearly $1,000 in prizes it was our greatest event ever.

The 32-team field was welcomed to each hole by one of what the men (clients) themselves named “The Band of Brothers.” The men announced the sponsor(s) of the hole and continued by sharing their testimony with the golfers; several offering prayers and thanks.

The Golf Outreach is a major part of the yearly fiscal responsibility needed to continue operating as a hugely needed ministry in Madison County. The men we mentor are seeking to change their past “stinkin’ thinkin’ “ ways and become responsible fathers, sons, grandfathers, uncles and brothers. We encourage you to join us at our “Jump Start Your day” (8:30 a.m. M-F), or simply stop by at our outreach center — 415 Main St., and take a look around at lives in progress.

The state recidivism rate (return) for new crimes is 60+ percent while the men who complete our program is under 5 percent. Are the journeys our men are on easy? No! Are the men always going to make the right decisions, (do any of us)? No! Are they subject to unbelievable criticism, bias and ostracization by society? Yes! Are we trying to take the place of the Christian Center? Absolutely not, we are separate organizations with separate mission statements, but with the same goals ... to help those less fortunate than many. Some may call it community building or revitalization or maybe even mission work. We both simply call it reflecting God’s love and grace.

If you have rummage sale remainders, clothing/shoes, furniture, good appliances, cookout/dinner/pitch-in leftovers/etc., food donation, small engine items, vehicles, and even property, I would encourage you to consider donating these things to us. We are 501-(c) (3) and can provide you with a tax-deductible receipt. Please call 649-2989, or simply stop by.

Jeffrey S. Dowers served as Golf Outreach chairman for Man4Man Ministries in Anderson.
