Letter: Volunteers created a memorable prom

On behalf of the special needs high school students and adults who attended the May 22 prom at Bethany Christian Church, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the many people whose efforts made this event possible.

First, I would like to thank children’s pastor, Tisha Schultz, who assembled an amazing team of talented volunteers who did everything from decorate, prepare food, serve, host, and clean up afterward. These volunteers included: Debi and Gil Morris, Valerie and Ted Mitchener, Mica and Matt Riedner (and the Blessings Class), and Brian and Jana Silvey. Thanks also to Blair Chaplin for his talented photography of this magical evening “Under the Sea.” Matthew Bradfield provided the sound system and music, Alex Baker provided free hairstyles, and Adrienne Frazier created picture frame party favors.

Thanks to volunteers Kelly and Doug Novotney, Rich Kelley, Marye Estes, Deborah Smith, and Angie McCartney. This evening wouldn’t have been possible without the support of each and every one of you. Again a very special thanks to Bethany Christian for opening your hearts to this wonderful ministry.

If you know an adult with a disability who would enjoy participating in monthly social events, or if you would like to receive emailed copies of the prom photos, please contact lbaker@acsc.net.
