Letter: Parents thankful for jail official's concern

We as parents and advocates for our recently incarcerated daughter wish to express sincere appreciation to Sgt. Duncan, acting jail commander.

Sgt. Duncan’s professional concern and direction addressed the trauma and safety of our mentally ill daughter.

Addressing these concerns reduced the probability of hospitalization and permits her to function at a level where she may assist her attorney prepare a reasonable defense.

Sgt. Duncan’s actions also reduced expected cost to taxpayers and protected the rights of our daughter.

We also wish to acknowledge the following persons for providing information and volunteer advocacy. Brenda Hamilton, director, Indiana Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health; Rick Wood, vice president, National Alliance on Mental Illness of Madison County; and Judi Turpen, mental health advocate.

Tony and Jannette Davidson
