Letter: City has neglected Walnut Street again

Once again the city has neglected Walnut Street. I live at 2436 Walnut St. and every year since 2001 I have to either write the paper or we call and call the mayor's office with pleas going unheard. We have been told that Conrail owns this field, but if that is true why are they not forced to keep it mowed? Believe me, if my yard looked like this field I would be hauled off to court and given so many days to take care of it plus given a fine with so many days to pay. My neighbor and I both have COPD and other serious problems.

This field is an eyesore plus unsafe. Plus mice and other things living in there. Last year they mowed it once. Piles of grass everywhere because of it being so tall, never even touched the curb to trim it up.

I'd like for Mayor Smith to come out and look at this jungle, also the news people. I have put up with this since 2001 as well as others on Walnut Street. Not only that, there is no sign on this side of railroad crossing warning not to try crossing. There is on the other side. So many have tried driving across many times and been stuck. I've had to call 911 for help so they could get trains held up. What's it gonna take to get signs up on this side, someone to get killed first? Please help the citizens of Walnut Street.
