Letter: Community partners aided Bike Rodeo

The Community Hospital Anderson Foundation was pleased to sponsor a Bike Rodeo on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Anderson Public Library where 94 bike helmets were given away to children ages 12 and under.

In addition to the library, other community partners who took part in the event included the Anderson Fire and Police Departments, Buckskin Bikes, Culligan Water and the Spoke and Wheel Bicycle Club. We are especially grateful to local neurosurgeon Dr. Jim Callahan and his wife for their generous gift used to purchase the bike helmets. After treating some head injuries as a result of bicycle accidents involving kids without helmets, Dr. Callahan suggested we consider giving away helmets which resulted in the Bike Rodeo.

A special thanks to the planning committee which consisted of Community Anderson employees Joanne Amick, Pediatrics; Leah Campbell, Nellie Eskew and Brandy Hill, Community Relations; and Linda West, Foundation.

Preventing one serious head injury will make it worth all of the effort that went into planning this event. Thanks again to all our partners who made the Bike Rodeo such a success!

Keith Trent, chief foundation officerCommunity Hospital Anderson Foundation
