Letter: County pay hike not justified yet

All political employees are employees of the taxpayers.

I've noted all the sheriff sales listed in the local paper. Homes lost for not paying taxes. The homes are no longer on the tax rolls — lost taxes. In many cases, lost population to Madison County.

Many in Madison County have lost income and would like a job paying $20,000 to $27,000. I feel bad for these people.

I worked 46 years in the offices of Guide and when sales went down, we had what we called austerity programs. Jobs were lost and others had to double up on work. The shape of the economy of Madison County looks like a 3 percent decrease, not a 3 percent increase to me.

Taxpayers of Madison County can't afford an increase for any employee at this time. Later, OK, when the times are better.

Yes, you are right, the reinstated wheel tax is for road funding only.
