Editorial: Elwood case shows need for talk about predatory teen sex

(Continued)

One thing’s for certain, all parents should remember their days in junior high and high school and the pursuit of younger girls by older boys. Not all boys have something sinister in mind, but many are honing in on a naive target for sexual conquest.

Talk to your daughter about the pitfalls of dating older boys. Talk to your son about treating people, including younger girls, with respect; make sure they understand the meaning of the word “no,” and that any verbal or physical resistance means it’s time to back off.

Human nature dictates that many young males will pursue younger females. That will never change. But sincere discussions about the topic can keep a situation from escalating to the point where criminal charges are filed and young lives are forever altered.

In summary Human nature dictates that many young males will pursue younger females. That will never change. But sincere discussions about the topic can keep a situation from escalating to the point where criminal charges are filed and young lives are forever altered.
