---- — Today the Pendleton Heights boys golf team, along with two Lapel golfers, are competing in the Muncie Central Regional at The Players Club in Yorktown. As they do, it is a real reminder of all the tournament success prep athletes have had over the past month.
The Arabians girls tennis team fought through a tough field to win its first sectional championship. Alexandria was denied the team title, but three individual players advanced from the sectional and into regional competition before being defeated. No. 1 singles player Sarah-Kate Brenner along with the No. 1 doubles team of Allie Hueston and Abbie Miller had great runs.
In track, there were 10 athletes who made it all the way to the state meets. Seven were from Pendleton Heights, Kiawna Cottrell, Alex Buck, Sean Brady, Monica and Anna Dudley, Micalah Booher and Emma Manchess. Anderson had Jalin Beard and Taylor Potts, while Lapel sent Morgan Tarlton.
In baseball, Alexandria and Lapel came through difficult fields to claim sectional titles and both put severe scares into top five teams in the Wabash Regional before having their seasons ended.
Pendleton Heights had a softball season many won’t soon forget. The Arabians won four major titles, Madison County, Hoosier Heritage Conference, sectional and regional. The regional crown was captured by defeating the state’s No. 1-ranked team, Roncalli, 7-0. The run ended in the semistate against a Franklin Central team that may very well win the state title on Saturday.
It was a very difficult season in which to compete. A wet season saw as much as a third of the season wiped out in some sports, making practice and events difficult to complete. Yet these athletes got it done and at a very high level. They closed the school year with a flourish to remember.
In summary Area high school athletes and teams have made indelible marks in the Indiana High School Athletic Association tournaments this spring, doing their home communities and fans proud in the process.
