Letter: Retiring county worker thanks residents

For the last 16 years I have mowed the roads in the summer for the County Highway Department. My mowing area was all the roads between 400 North and 400 South from county line to county line. This will be my last mowing season, I am going to retire from the County Highway.

I want to thank all the people who gave me cold Cokes and cold bottles of water in the 90- and 100-degree heat and gave me shelter from the storms. One thing government workers must always remember: you work for the citizens not the politicians.

I will have a retirement party on Friday, Nov. 1, at noon at the Madison County Highway Department, 2830 W. Eighth St. Stop by and say hello, we will have some snacks and sweets.
