SPORTS (April 23): Boys golf takes third at invitational

Pendleton Heights’ boys golf team took third as Jake Groninger shot an even-par 72 on Saturday at the 11-team Huntington North Invitational.
Brian Stanley (81), Michael Maxwell (84) and Tyler White (84) rounded out the Arabians’ scoring. PH shot a 321, nine strokes behind first-place Mishawaka Marian.
Friday, the Arabians lost to Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Mount Vernon on a fifth-man tiebreaker (161-161) and edged Fishers (163) in a triangular meet at Idlewold Golf Club. White earned medalist honors with a 37, followed by Stanley (41), Groninger (41) and Maxwell (42).
April 17, the Arabians lost to Highland 163-168 at Killbuck Golf Course. Groninger, White and Maxwell each shot 41 for PH.
April 15, PH edged Delta 168-174 at Idlewold. Groninger led the Arabians with a 40, followed by Jeremiah Elliot (41), White (43) and Stanley (44) rounded out PH’s scoring.

Boys track & field
The Arabians took second place Thursday in their own invitational, won by Highland. PH finished with 95 points to the Scots’ 147.
Nathan Hendershot won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs for the Arabians in times of 4:42.69 and 2:05.56. Evan Groninger took the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.69 seconds. and the PH 3,200 relay team won in 8:34.58.

Girls track & field
The Arabians topped Highland 81-49 on April 16, winning 10 events in the process. Catrina Langley won both hurdles events for PH, while Hannah Douglas took the high jump and the 800-meter run.

Girls tennis
The Arabians ended the week with an overall record of 3-3, ending with a 3-2 win Friday over Shelbyville.
Jordan Safford and Ashley Haskett won their No. 2 and 3 singles matches, respectively. Allison Blake and Beth Pluhar won the No. 2 doubles match for PH.
Alexandria topped Pendleton Heights 4-1 on April 14 in the inaugural Madison County Tourmament semifinal.
