— Encounter at the Falls set for May 1-3
PENDLETON — The Encounter at the Falls, a three-day living history presentation, will be May 1-3 at Falls Park. The event is hosted by the Pendleton Historical Museum, Falls Parks, the Pendleton Community Library and Spring Trails. It is sponsored by Saint John’s Medical Center.
Falls Park will come to life and depict an era in the 1800s. Some of the activities will include are a re-enactment of Lincoln-Douglass Debate, Civil War soldiers performing drills and battle, a barn dance and a Sunday meeting which will include inspirational service and music of the time.
Gerald Borum will show for the first time in a public forum, his rare, copper etchings of the Civil War by Edwin Forbes scratched straight from the battlefield. The display will be in the Community Building from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Oral, head and neck cancer screenings set
ANDERSON — Saint John’s will be conducting free exams for the early detection of Oral, Head and Neck Cancer at the Saint John's Cancer Center on May 2 by appointment only. Dr. Chris Kinney (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery) will conduct the visual screening. To schedule an appointment, call the Madison County Chapter of the American Cancer society at 642-6603.

Trinity Life Center plans for Hwy. 38 sale
LAPEL — Trinity Life Center, Ind. 13 and Ind. 38, will be selling geraniums, Sechler’s pickles, and serving food from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2 during the Highway 38 sale. Flea markets and a bake sale are also planned.

ISP releases traffic, criminal reports
PENDLETON — The Indiana State Police have released the traffic, criminal enforcement results for the district for the month of March. The Pendleton District covers Hamilton, Hancock, and Madison counties.

One-day childbirth class being offered
ANDERSON — Saint John’s Birthing Center is taking registrations for the next one-day “Prepared Childbirth” class, which will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2. The course provides information to empower the expectant mother and her family to make informed choices during pregnancy, labor, delivery and beyond. Saint John’s Birthing Center also offers Prepared Childbirth as a series conducted over five class sessions.
Childbirth classes in Spanish also are available on a quarterly basis.

Chicken noodle dinner served Friday
PENDLETON — The Pendleton Historical Museum will serve its third annual chicken noodle dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 1, at the Community Building in Falls Park.
The menu will include chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, drink and dessert.
Price is $7 per person and tickets may be purchased at the door.
Carryout will be available. The dinner corresponds with the start of The Encounter at the Falls, a Civil War re-enactment.
Auxiliary to take officer nominations
PENDLETON — The Pendleton American Legion Auxiliary Unit 117, 611 W. State St., will have nominations for officers at 7 p.m. May 7. The election will be at 7 p.m. June 4.
All nominees and those voting in the election must have their current dues paid.

Pendleton sets heavy trash pick-up
PENDLETON — Heavy trash pick-up for Pendleton this year will be on the area’s regular trash day.
On May 5, trash will be picked up on State Street and to the south and on May 6 trash will be picked up for those north of State Street.
Tire and building materials will not be picked up. Cardboard should be flattened. The law prohibits trash service from picking up items contain Freon.
