SPORTS (April 30): Tennis racks up two wins

The Pendleton Heights girls tennis team collected two wins last week to improve its season record to 5-3.
The Lady Arabians kicked off the week with a strong 3-2 victory over Madison County rival Lapel on April 21. Two days later, PH walked away victorious, 4-1, over Eastern Hancock.
Against Lapel, No. 3 singles player Bess Pluhar battled Lapel’s Emily Putman for the win, defeating her, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4.
Both Arabians’ doubles teams followed suit with the No. 1 doubles tandem of Lindsey McIntire and Allison Blake subduing Lapel’s Rebecca Steele and Megan Peterson 6-2, 6-4. Leah Acres and Lauren Dawson vanquished Lapel’s No. 2 doubles team of Kate Goldsmith and Kayla Hobbs in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.
The Arabians scored two singles wins and swept both doubles matches to best Eastern Hancock.
No. 1 singles player Jordan Safford toppled Royals’ Julie Elsbury in straight sets, 7-5, 6-0, while PH’s Karley Etherington used a 6-0, 6-1 effort to defeat Tara Rodebeck in No. 2 singles action.
The duo of Acres and Dawson were victorious at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-2, 6-3 over Karen Wright and Carly Silverman.
Blake and Pluhar combined to defeat Melissa Longworth and Andy Silverman, 6-3, 6-1, in No. 2 doubles.
The Arabians tennis team concluded the week hosting Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Rushville on Thursday, but final results were not made available.

Track and field
The Pendleton Heights girls track and field team competed in two meets last week, including a conference three-way with Mount Vernon and Rushville on Tuesday. On Thursday, the Arabians hosted the Pendleton Heights Invitational. The Pendleton Heights boys track and field team traveled to the Greensburg Invitational on Saturday.
However, results were not made available.
