East Elementary kindergarten through third grade students that participated in reading intervention during the school year had a special reading celebration on April 17th.
Bob May, an Indiana State Trooper, was the special guest and made balloon animal hats while Mrs. Richardson, the East librarian, read the book Never, Ever, Shout in a Zoo to almost 120 students. After the children listened to the story, they were able to choose a book of their choice to keep and take home. The balloon animal celebration is the first RIF (Reading Is Fundamental, Inc.) event at East. RIF provides millions of children and their families books each year along with motivational reading celebrations. Information about helping children become better readers and ways to engage families in literacy development are also included in the program. The South Madison Elementary School RIF program is sponsored by Nestle Corporation. East Elementary is grateful to the Nestlé employees for their generosity to the students and the community.
