CHESTERFIELD — Traditional native customs, clairvoyance and crystal healing all meet this weekend at the 123rd Celebration Weekend at Camp Chesterfield.
“We actually began our meetings here on these grounds in 1886,” said the Rev. A. Win Srogi, a leader at the camp.
The grounds were used by early native Americans who are tied into the history of Mounds State Park.
Camp Chesterfield is located one block north of Indiana 32. The entrance to Camp Chesterfield is one block north on Washington Street. The theme of the celebration is “The Sunflower and Dove Unite,” reflecting the symbolism between a dove representing peace and a sunflower that faces sunlight.
On June 24, the camp will sponsor a community dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. to recognize the needs of area residents during a period of financial troubles. The camp hopes to continue the dinners monthly.
For this weekend’s celebration, a walking tour of the historic grounds will begin at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Sarah Brown. Events are open to the public; however, there are charges for certain events.
