White River ramp opens at Perkinsville

The Herald Bulletin

The newest public access ramp for White River boaters opened Tuesday in Perkinsville in western Madison County. The site, developed by the Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Fish and Wildlife, allows boaters, canoeists and rafters an access ramp made of prefabricated concrete. Tuesday, Gary Mumma, an operator of public access sites for DNR, finished the work on the ramp, which includes a wheelchair accessible stoop. The project took a week, Mumma said. The ramp is in the 9600 block of County Road 280 North about a block east of Bonge’s. For a 19-mile canoe ride, DNR recommends putting in north of Chesterfield at the southwest corner of the bridge at County Road 400 East. Canoes can then be taken out at the new Perkinsville site, although there are also at least two other sites along the river.
