St. Matthew welcomes pastor emeritus

ANDERSON — The Rev. Doris Winford, pastor emeritus, will deliver the message at St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 1512 N. Madison Ave., at the 9:30 a.m. worship service Sunday. Her message, entitled “After Christmas: Now What?”, is based on the text Matthew 2:1-12. Guest soloist Layke Jones will sing “Daystar” by Gaither and “Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone).”

Fellowship time will follow the service in Wesley Hall. Sunday School classes for all ages begin at 11 a.m.

Epworth welcomes Freedom Quartet

MATTHEWS — Epworth United Methodist Church, 105 W. 8th St., Matthews, will host the Freedom Quartet in concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30. Doors will open at 6 p.m. There will be no admission charge, but a love offering will be taken.

After the concert, there will be a meet-and-greet time in the Fellowship Hall with refreshments served.

2014 'Gospel Explosion' Sunday

ANDERSON — New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 2318 Sheridan St., will have its 2014 annual Gospel Explosion at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Master of ceremonies will be Sister Kim Johnson of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Guests will include Nufaze, Friendship Missionary Baptist Choir, Ja'Ryeah Harrrison, Marions Community Male Chorus, Zion Male Chorus of Kokomo, Arnetta Peak-Randal, Angels of Glory and Ricky Jones.

All are welcome.

  • FEA - HB0728 - Fresh Orientation - SH Elwood freshmen learn the ways of high school through mentoring program About half the 112 incoming freshmen at Elwood Jr./Sr. High School got a jump on their friends recently by attending a freshman orientation session. Joan Mercer, an English teacher who helped organize the the orientation, said the mentor program, which has been in place for several years, has been effective in new students make the high school transition.
