Butlers receive Strengthening Familes honors

ANDERSON — Rebecca and Mercedes Butler display their certificates from Madison County’s first Strengthening Families Program. Each family that graduated from the program completed all necessary requirements during the 14-week period. The next program will begin on Monday, April 1, and be located in Elwood.

Hinds Career Center inducts 22 into NHS

ELWOOD — As representing Alexandria, Tipton and Elwood High Schools, 22 seniors from Hinds Career Center were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society on March 12.

Each received purple and silver honor cords to be worn at their high school graduation ceremonies in honor of their academic and technical accomplishments. All 22 seniors have post-secondary plans including Purdue, Ball State, IUPUI, Indiana University Kokomo, Ivy Tech Community College, and Butler University.

These students are now members of a national honor society of schools and colleges that recognize their achievements in career and technical education. Inductees must have a 3.75 GPA in their career center program, overall 3.0 GPA, excellent attendance and citizenship, and be recommended for membership. Also recognized as juniors for provisional membership were four individuals who exemplify excellence in academic and technical achievement:  Joshua Baldwin, Gage Brown, Rebecca Faulstich, Mallory Gibson, Katelyn Hickman, Corbin Hughes, Sammy Mireles, Kandace Slayton and Katie Waymire.
