Community Hospital Anderson sells discounted mammograms

ANDERSON — In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Community Hospital Anderson will sell $55 discounted screening mammograms this month to promote early detection and prevention of breast cancer.

"Mammography is the best screening tool to detect breast cancer. It can find cancers at an early stage, when they are small and most responsive to treatment," says Valarie Godfrey, Community Anderson's mammography supervisor.

Women over the age of 35 who have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months are eligible for the $55 discounted screening digital mammogram. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, who have had breast implants, known breast cancer or who currently have breast symptoms are not eligible to have a screening mammogram through this program.

Women not meeting program guidelines are encouraged to check with their insurance representatives on their policies regarding coverage of screening and diagnostic mammograms.

The $55 special cost includes the hospital charge, reading of the digital mammogram by Community's board certified radiologists and the iCAD SecondLook fee. Results of the screenings will be sent to each woman as well as her physician. The purchase of a $55 digital mammogram is not reimbursable by insurance.

The $55 gift certificates may be purchased throughout October at one of the following locations: Community Anderson cashier, located in the lower level of the 1601 Building, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; The Comfort Shoppe at Community Anderson, located in the hospital’s outpatient lobby, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.; ProCare, 2519 E. 10th St., Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; or call 800-777-7775 to purchase over the phone with a credit card. Certificates purchased at Community Hospital Anderson never expire and can be transferred to another person.

Community Anderson is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) to offer mammography services. The Women's Center has dedicated digital mammography equipment, used only for mammography, and technologists and radiologists who are specially trained in mammography.

For more information about purchasing the $55 digital mammogram certificates, call Community Anderson’s Women's Center at 765-298-5386.
