Arts Center ice cream social Wednesday

ANDERSON — The Anderson Center for the Arts sponsored ice cream social, will be held on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Citizens Plaza Park.

Cost is $5 for homemade dessert and ice cream, $8 for premium hot dog, chips, dessert, ice cream, and drink.

Hospital offers weight management class 	

ANDERSON — Community Hospital Anderson will offer an eight-week weight management class, on eight consecutive Thursdays from Aug. 7 to Sept. 25. The class will meet at noon in the Community Anderson Diabetes Care Center, located in the lower level of the 1601 building, on the hospital’s campus. The cost is $75.

Instructed by a registered dietitian, the class will include an individualized meal plan and guide, virtual grocery store tour, dining out tips, weigh-ins and consultations with a dietitian.

Legion prepares breakfast Saturday

ANDERSON — The American Legion Post 127, 4118 Columbus Ave., Anderson, will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast on Saturday from 7 to 10 a.m.

Price is $6. Carry-outs will be available.

CHESTERFIELD -- A memorial ride for Marine Veteran, Sgt. Cory Wade Bell will be held Sunday. Kickstands up at 12:30 p.m. at Monty's Bar, 28 W. Main St., Chesterfield. Ride ends at 5:30 p.m. at the American Legion, 5100 Mounds Road, Chesterfield.

Bell went through ROTC at Highland High School and graduated from Anderson High School in 2007. He passed away July 12 and his funeral is set for today.

From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., there will be a hog roast and entertainment by Thomas Wayne Pruitt and RT Smooth. Cost is $20 per bike.

Joan Mercer, an English teacher who helped organize the the orientation, said the mentor program, which has been in place for several years, has been effective in new students make the high school transition.
