ANDERSON, Ind. — A compilation of local news briefs as published in the Monday edition of The Herald Bulletin.

GED orientation classes Monday

ANDERSON — Anderson Community Schools is offering classes in GED preparation, Adult English Language classes, Basic Education and Basic Education Refresher classes for the 2012-2013 school year.

Anyone interested in taking an adult education or GED class must attend a one-hour orientation and take a three-hour pretest to establish learning levels.

Orientation and pretesting will be held at 1600 Hillcrest Ave.

The next orientation date is Monday, Dec. 10, 9 to 10 a.m. or 6 to 7 p.m. Appointments for the pretest are scheduled only at the orientation. Pretesting date is Tuesday, Dec. 11, 9 a.m. to noon or 5 to 8 p.m.

GED and Basic Education Refresher classes are offered during the day and in the evening from 4 to 7 p.m. English as a Second Language classes for adults are offered Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Basic Education Classes are offered Monday and Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.

North Madison tea party meeting set

ALEXANDRIA — The next Madison County Tea Party meeting will feature discussions on topics of history, politics and national themes. Videos on various topics will be shown and then those attending will be allowed to discuss each topic.

This meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Emery Lee Auditorium at Beulah Park in Alexandria. The group is educational, patriotic, political and nonpartisan, organizers said. The public is invited.

Airport offering electronics recycling

INDIANAPOLIS — On Wednesday, Dec. 12, airport-based employees and nearby residents can look to the Indianapolis International Airport to free up space in basements, garages, attics and other storage areas.

In partnership with RecycleForce, a local, nonprofit recycling services organization, the Indianapolis Airport Authority is hosting Electronics Recycling Day.

From 7 to 10 a.m. and from 2 to 5 p.m., items may be dropped off for recycling at the employee parking lot, adjacent to the airport’s cellphone lot. From I-70 take Exit 68. Follow blue road signs for the cellphone lot. The employee lot is just south of the cellphone lot at the intersection of West Perimeter and South Service roads.

‘Christmas at Central’ to be Wednesday

ANDERSON — Central Christian Church will host its “Christmas at Central” concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12.

The Chancel Choir and Handbells as well as soloists will be performing.

There is no charge for admission. A freewill offering will be accepted.

Central Christian is located at the corner of 10th and Jackson streets. A ramp entrance is located on 10th Street.

United Way speaker to be at Exchange

ANDERSON — Jamesey Thomas of the United Way Community Access Network will be the guest speaker at the Anderson Noon Exchange Club luncheon meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at The Edge at 11:30 a.m. Thomas will talk about a shared software system called CharityTracker that helps to coordinate services between agencies to better serve clients and help avoid duplication. Local organizations are working together to address community needs.

Legion to serve broasted pork chops

ANDERSON — The George Hockett American Legion Post 127, 4118 Columbus Ave., will host a broasted pork chop dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13. Cost is $7.50. Carryouts will be available.

Students sponsor fundraiser dinner

LAPEL — On Friday, Dec. 14, from 5 to 6 p.m., Lapel High School “Students to England 2013” will sponsor a chicken noodles meal in the school commons area.

Adult ticket prices is $7. Student ticket price is $3. Desserts will be available for purchase for $1.50.

The meal takes place prior to the basketball game against Beech Grove.

Tickets may be purchased in advance from any participating junior at LHS or at the door.

Profits from this will go to help students pay for their trip to Europe in the fall of 2013.

‘Red, White & Green’ dance on Dec. 16

ANDERSON — Square dancers are invited to the Footloose Square Dance Christmas dance on Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Rangeline Community Center, 1405 N. Rangeline Road.

Caller will be Darrin Henry and the cuer is Judy Mouton. Pre-rounds will be at 6 p.m. and square dancing from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Lapel church hosting ‘Bleed Blue’ drive

LAPEL — Ford Street United Methodist Church, 925 Ford St., will host a “Bleed Blue” blood drive on Tuesday, Dec. 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Smith Hall gymnasium. Donors will receive a limited edition, regulation-size Coach Pagano Colts football as a gift in appreciation for their donation.

Frankton choirs to perform at high school gym

FRANKTON — Frankton High School and Junior High choirs will be performing a Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, in the school gymnasium.

Admission is free.

Director is Brad Scott; choreographer is Holly Stultz.

Also, student artwork from all grade levels will be displayed in the main hallway. The exhibit has been arranged by the High School Art Club, under the leadership of Paula Balenseifer. Students’ handmade ceramic Christmas ornaments will be available for purchase.
