‘Dream Big’ during library’s summer reading program

NEW CASTLE, Ind. — The “Dream Big” summer reading program at New Castle-Henry County Public Library will officially begin Monday on the bookmobile and Friday in the library.

This year’s program, sponsored by Friends of the Library, will feature night- and dream-inspired activities. There is a program for children, teens, and adults available both in the library and also on the bookmobile. All ages can read to win prizes during the program.

On the bookmobile and in the Children’s Library, children can read and review books to earn books. The bookmobile hosts weekly craft stops at Blue River Valley and Kennard Elementary Schools. Find out more at

The Children’s Library will host weekly activities for all ages of children beginning June 12 and running through July 20. Pat-A-Cake story time is on Wednesdays at 2 p.m.; Toddler Time is on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. or at 10 a.m. Thursdays; Preschool Story Time is on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.; Nite Owls for ages 5-8 is at 11 a.m. on Thursdays, and Bingo for Books for ages 6-12 is on Friday at 11 a.m. Children can make crafts to take home on Fridays at 10 a.m. and Saturdays at 2 p.m.

Minnetrista Theatre Preserves present “One Destiny,” a play about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln told by two men who were there. The play, designed for ages 8 and up, will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 8, in the library’s auditorium.

Students in grades 7-12 can sign up for teen summer reading on the bookmobile or at the AV desk in the library. Teens choose books to read, write a short review and turn in the reviews for prizes. All reviews will be entered for weekly prize drawings. Grand prizes for teens include a Kodak Playsport Video Camera, NOOK Color e-reader, or $50 Wal-Mart Gift Card.

There will be a Teen Read-A-Thon on Friday, June 8, from 12-4 p.m. Pizza will be served at noon, and  door prizes, snacks and reading suggestions will be provided throughout the event. Teens who stay the entire four hours receive a grand prize.

Adults can participate by signing up at the main library service desk or on the bookmobile. There are two ways to win: Read a book of your choice and write a 2-3 or attend events hosted by the library.

Turn in your entries to have a chance to win weekly prizes including a Dream Manager book, dream journal, coffee gift card, and flash drive. Grand prizes of inspirational dream art and a book bag will be awarded at the conclusion of summer reading. Visit the Reading Room at to find some great books.

“Dream Big” with Alan LeDuc on Thursday, June 14, at 6:30 p.m. LeDuc shares a simple eight-step process which shows ordinary people how to achieve the extraordinary. LeDuc completed a 23,000 mile motorcycle ride circumnavigating the U.S. and Canada and documented his travels in his book “Passion in the Wind.”

Visit the Dome Theater mobile planetarium on Saturday, June 30, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Take in a 20-minute space-related presentation in the auditorium.
