'Bob & Tom' returning to Paramount Theatre

Radio hosts, comedians returning to Paramount for Tim Wilson Memorial Fund

It wasn’t that long ago that Tim Wilson was in Indianapolis, making audiences laugh with his music and pure wit on the syndicated “Bob & Tom Show.”

“He had tremendously original comedy,” “Bob & Tom Show” co-host Tom Griswold said. “He was a guy who really had his own voice … his own perspective and take on everything.”

Wilson, who was a frequent guest on the “Bob & Tom Show,” died Feb. 26 of heart failure, and now members of the radio show and several comedians are coming to Anderson in his honor.

A Tim Wilson Benefit Show is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, at the Paramount Theatre. The comedy show will feature Griswold, co-host Bob Kevoian, Chick McGee, Kristi Lee, Drew Hastings, Dr. Gonzo, Heywood Banks and Donnie Baker.

Griswold said Wilson’s death was out of nowhere, and the only logical thing to do was raise money for the Tim Wilson Memorial Fund. Proceeds go to a college fund for the late comedian’s two children.

But Griswold assures fans that the benefit show is all about the laughs.

“It’s going to be a funny show,” he said. “It’s not going to be a funeral.”

The show on the stage will be adult-oriented and racier than the “Bob & Tom Show,” Griswold said.

The radio duo haven’t performed at the theater since 2007, Paramount Executive Director Gayle Jones Burris said.

“We can’t wait to have them back on stage,” Burris said. “They’re really popular with folks around here and I’m glad to have them back in Anderson.”

Burris said she wishes their return were under different circumstances. But Griswold said the show is about comedy and not a tribute.

Another benefit show is scheduled down South. Comedians Ron White, Kathleen Madigan, Ralphie May and others will perform May 14 in Nashville, Tenn., at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center.
