Five By Design to premiere new show with Anderson Symphony Orchestra

Concert April 6 at Paramount Theatre; desserts at After Party

ANDERSON, Ind. — Think toe tapping and finger snapping.  It’s the kind of classic, classy music that just makes you want to move.

On April 6, the nationally-acclaimed vocal ensemble Five By Design will croon their tunes to the music of the Anderson Symphony Orchestra as they debut “The Ultra Lounge Show” at 7:30 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre, 1124 Meridian Plaza.

“It is the premiere of Five By Design’s new show,” said Dana Stone, executive director of the Anderson Symphony Orchestra. Stone noted that Five By Design has performed in Anderson twice before, and was very well received.

The Minnesota-based ensemble’s website describes the style: “Five By Design embraces the unforgettable melodies, lush harmonies, and swinging rhythms that evoke the names of Miller, Mancini and Mercer.”

The voices of Five by Design belong to Lorie Carpenter-Niska, Catherine Scott, Kurt Niska, Michael Swedberg and Terrence Niska.

“They are fantastic,” said Rick Sowers, music director of the Anderson Symphony Orchestra. Five By Design brings a mix of vocal jazz and lounge music with a theatrical touch. “It’s very, very entertaining ... It’s visually fun to watch.”

That’s because Five By Design incorporates costuming, sets and different lighting into the show.

The evening of music will be set as if in the Tiki lounge of a casino. Expect to hear the music of artists like Bobby Darrin, Rosemary Clooney, Wayne Newton and Peggy Lee.

To top off the musical evening, you can follow the performance up with dessert, drinks, fun and more live music at the Tiki-room-style After Party to be held across the street at Laura Sandlin’s Shelter Insurance Agency building.

Party-goers will enjoy desserts, a cash bar, complimentary coffee and water along with banter and music.

The Ultra Lounge Show comes to The Paramount Theatre, 1124 Meridian Plaza, Anderson, on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 to $32, seniors $18 to $30. Student tickets run $5.

Add $10 to the ticket to drop in to the After Party. For more information or tickets, call 644-2111, or check the website at www.andersonsymphony.org.
