4-H Fair: Queen candidate profiles

The 4-H Fair Queen Pageant is to be held tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the fairgrounds in Alexandria. Here are short bios for each of the candidates.

Daniele Burnell

Home: Frankton
Age: 17
Parents: Matt and Stacey Burnell
School: Lapel High School
4-H Club: Ruff Ryders
4-H projects, activities and awards: Shown swine for the past seven years, horses for seven years, photography for two years.Won high points in belt buckle in horses, along with numerous other trophies and ribbons. Have also received the Mental Attitude award for cross-country.
Future plans: Attend Indiana University or Ball State University, and earn a registered nurse license, specializing in pediatrics. Goal is to obtain employment at Riley Hospital for Children and would like to take time for travel.

Caitlyn Anne Graybill

Home: Anderson
Age: 17
Parents: Cory and Sheryl Graybill
School: Anderson High School
4-H Club: Happy Helpers
4-H projects, activities and awards: Sheep, swine, cooking, Jr. leaders, jewelry, gift wrapping and recycling.
Future plans: Attend Purdue University to study nursing and eventually become a midwife.

Jensen Hochstetler

Age: 18

Future plans: Become an elementary school teacher.

Future plans: Graduate high school with academic honors and further her education by studying, possibly at Indiana University.

Sydney Montgomery

Age: 19

School: Alexandria-Monroe High School
4-H Club: Alexandria Ag.
4-H projects, activities and awards: Beef, swine, goats, sheep, recycling and photography.
Future plans: Attend Ball State University to pursue a degree in Zoology or Animal Science, with the hope of becoming a zookeeper.

Stephanie Morris

Home: Elwood
Age: 17

School: Madison-Grant High School
4-H Club: Summitville Ag.
4-H projects, activities and awards: Beef, Fashion Revue, Fine Arts, Foods, Sewing, Swine, Vet Science. Breaking new ground project to help make our fairgrounds more handicap accessible. Chairman of Jr. Leaders’ Open Swine Show, current Jr. Leader representative on 4-H Association. Current V.P. of Madison County Jr. Leaders and Summitville Ag 4-H Club. I Dare You Award 2010, Supreme Showman 2012 and Top Jr. Leader Award 2012.
Future plans: Attend Western IIlinois or Purdue University to study Animal Nutrition and Agribusiness. Hopes to participate on livestock judging team; then pursue a career in agriculture to promote the livestock and crop industries.

Alisha Paddock

Home: Alexandria
Age: 17
Parents: Kurt and Linda Paddock
School: Alexandria-Monroe High School
4-H Club: Summitville Ag.
4-H projects, activities and awards: Color Prints Photography, Fashion Review, Gift Wrapping, Gardening and Collections. Recycling, Grand Champions and Reserve Grand Champion; Consumer Clothing, Wearable Arts and Bicycle Rodeo Reserve Grand Champions and State Fair entries for all three. Foods, Champion and State Fair entry. Alexandria Ag. current secretary and past president and treasurer.
Future plans: Pursue a degree in physical therapy, with a minor in sports, or study to become a pre-kindergarten teacher.

Courtney Purkey

Home: Alexandria
Age: 18
Parents: Todd and Karen Purkey
School: Madison-Grant High School
4-H Club: Alexandria Ag.
4-H projects, activities and awards: Sheep 9 years and goats, with Grand Champion and Champion awards for each. Photography, Reserve Champion; Bicycle Rodeo Grand Champion two years in a row; Cats, Champion; Electric, Champion and Reserve Champion; Small Engine, Champion; Junior Leaders 5 years, treasurer one year and received Top Junior Leader Award. Alexander Ag. member 10 years and held offices of president, vice president and, for two years, treasurer.
Future plans: Attend Ivy Tech then transfer to Ball State or Vincennes University for a career in education or engineering.

Shania Elaine Ray

Home: Frankton
Age: 17
Parents: Katrina and Ross Hunter (mother & stepfather) and Terry Ray (father)
School: Frankton Jr./Sr. High School
4-H Club: Fur & Feathers
4-H projects, activities and awards: Cake decorating (9 years with three Grand Champion awards and one Reserve Grand Champion award), Fashion Revue, Foods (one Champion and one Reserve Grand Champion award), Reading (four Reserve Champion and two grand champions), Sewing and Poultry (7 Champion awards with one Reserve Grand Champion each in large fowl, meat pen and poultry poster; also a Top Herdsman Award three times in poultry), Swine, Welding and open livestock judging.
Future plans: Attend Purdue University to major in Political Science and minor in Agribusiness.

Lauren Santichen

4-H projects, activities and awards: Wood Science (10 years) National 4-H award - scholarship 2013; Fine Arts (10 years) National 4-H award; Cake Decorating (10 years); Entomology (3 years) National 4-H award; Jr. Leaders (4 years); and local club V.P and Treasurer.
Future plans: Attend Rose Hulman to study Biomedical or Electrical Engineering.

  • FEA - HB0419 - PTP support group - 20 A new kind of support Crystal Everhart’s daughter was only 16 when she announced she was pregnant. The soon-to-be grandmother wasn’t totally sure what to do or who to talk to. At one point, she felt herself start to slip into depression. Nearly three years later, she’s trying to make sure other Madison County grandparents won’t feel the same way.

  • Liberty Christian makes changes to annual auction Liberty Christian School is upping the ante for its upcoming Duck-Tacular event. The school’s annual benefit auction is steering away from past forest themes to “Duck-Tacular,” a nod to the popular A&E show “Duck Dynasty.”
