Eclectic and a flair for pink

(Continued)

“We started downstairs, but it had a snowball effect,” she said. “Once you finish one room, it makes everything else look old.”

While the kitchen is not large, it has been totally remodeled with stylish tile backsplash and countertop. She covered a nearby wall with brick to add even more character.

Together they removed a closet from the dining room and flipped the location of the dining room and sitting room to fit a larger table. With five grown children between them, family dinners swell with numbers pretty quickly.

Now the dining room is visible as guests enter the house. Chairs are upholstered with chic zebra print, which matches the area rug that sits atop a dark wood floor. Bright purple walls are accented with white trim. Completing the picture is a striking starburst light fixture hanging over the long table.

The colorful dining room walks into the sitting room – which is almost entirely white. Textures are the hallmark of this elegant space. A soft leather couch with furry throw blankets and a thick area rug create a comfortable yet sophisticated feel. Large pictures of the children steal the focus of the room.

On the other side of the kitchen, the living room is a blast of color. Fuchsia walls and accent pieces are trimmed in white. Mirrors, lamps and knickkacks are of unusual shapes, which create interest all around the room.

“I’m mid-century meets Betsy Johnson,” said Tami. “I enjoy all of the renovation and decorating work. I like trying to make things better and add the conveniences of a new home to our older house.”

Each week, Emma Bowen Meyer features a Madison County home. If you know of a home that should be showcased, send an e-mail to emmagoldiemeyer@yahoo.com.
