Henry County Republican Club hosts speech contest for students

---- — NEW CASTLE — The Henry County Republican Club will host its 17th annual Speech Contest for High School Students on Thursday, March 6, at 7 p.m. at Henry County Republican Headquarters, 1325 Broad St., New Castle.

Any student in grades 7-12 in public, private, or home schools who is a Henry County resident is eligible to compete. Republican affiliation is not required. Democrats, Libertarians, Reform, independents, and other parties are welcome.

This year’s topic is: Do you like the technology used in schools or are paper and pencil better?

The time limit is no longer than five minutes per speech. There is no minimum time. Time signals will be provided. A panel of three out-of-county judges will preside, in order to prevent any potential conflicts of interest.

Awards are as follows:

Champion: $100

Runner-Up: $75

Third Place: $25

All competitors will also receive a free one-year associate (non-voting) membership in the Henry County Republican Club (a $10 value).
